Structural aspects of the glass-to-crystal transition in sodium-calcium silicate glasses

What makes some sodium–calcium silicate glasses nucleate crystals throughout their volume? NMR and diffraction compare the glasses with their corresponding crystals. Similarities in sodium distributions contrast with differences in the silicate network, suggesting that the arrangement of network modifiers is an important part of the nucleation process.
