NaPO3-AlF3 GLASSES: FLUORINE EVAPORATION DURING MELTING AND THE RESULTING VARIATIONS IN STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES

Glasses with the same nominal composition can differ substantially after melting. This study shows how temperature, crucible material, and preparation conditions affect fluorine retention and aluminum uptake in fluorophosphate glasses. The resulting structural differences produce glass-transition temperatures that vary by as much as 100 °C, emphasizing the importance of measuring actual composition.
